The Grand Magoozi Bio

Susie Scurry (aka The Grand Magoozi) is a bourgeoning Melbourne based singer/songwriter on the verge of releasing her second studio album. This past July, Scurry traveled to Sheffield, UK to work with acclaimed producer Colin Elliot (Richard Hawley). The finished product will be released in early 2018 here on Flippin Yeah Records.

Susie’s songwriting is clear and economical in the manner of old classic standards. Her voice is rich, playful and versatile enough to bring life to an upbeat country song and then a velvet purr to a smoky jazz ballad. Her music has been described by the press as being ‘nostalgic,’ ‘dreamy folk’ that lies ‘somewhere between the jazz club and the barnyard’.

In her few short years of public performing, starting in local shows around Melbourne, Susie has toured Australia extensively. She was invited to play in Melbourne’s HUSH event at Parliament House, Darwin Festival, Perth Arts Festival, Port Fairy Folk Festival as well as a 26 date Outback Australia Tour supporting Darren Hanlon. Her eponymous debut album was Sydney’s 2SER Album of the Week. Her single Pinkie Blues featured on Paul Gough’s (Radio National, The Inside Sleeve) ‘Top songs of 2015.’
